Frequently Asked Questions
Q. How do I get a library card?
A. Library cards are free for all Cannon County Residents. Identification with your name and current address and phone number is requested.
Q. How long may I keep an item?
A. Books, audios and magazines are checked out for 2 weeks. These items may be renewed unless they are on reserve. Videos are checked out for 1 week. Patrons MUST be 18 years of age to check out videos
Q. How many items may I check out?
A. Adults and children can check out up to 14 items in a two week time period. New card holders may check out 2 books the first time, but when those are returned they may check out 14 books in a two week time period. Videos are checked out four per cardholder for one week.
Q. Where do I return library materials?
A. Items should be returned to the circulation desk during business hours. A book drop is available by the front entrance for materials that must be returned when the library is closed. Auburntown items should be returned to the circulation desk during business hours.
Q. May I reserve an item if it is checked out?
A. Yes. We will notify you when the item is returned and will hold it for one week.
Q. What is Inter-Library Loan?
A. Books which have been in publication over six months and specific articles may be requested from other libraries. Videos, audios and genealogy are not normally available through Inter-library loan.
Q. Is there a fine for overdue materials?
A. All materials except videos are subject to a fine of 10 cents per day, not including Sundays and holidays (days when the library is closed.) Video fines are $1.00 per day per video.
Q. May reference books be checked out?
A. Reference books do not circulate. A copy machine is available and copies may be made for 15 cents per page.
Q. Are computers available?
A. Yes, there are computers available for word processing, reference, and Internet access. We offer FREE Wireless, too!
Q. How about special programs?
A. Regularly Storytime for children ages 1-6 year olds-
Every Thursday @ 10 AM @ Adams Memorial Library (August- May)
Every Wednesday @ 10 AM @ Auburntown Branch Library (August- May)
Summer Reading Program is held for children ages 1-12.
The annual Trick or Treat (Halloween Night) is also open to all ages.
Q. Volunteer (General) at the libraries.
A. The Cannon County Library System welcomes volunteers for each of its branches. Volunteers are needed to assist with shelf reading, straightening books, phone calls, data entry, searching for books, filing, grant writing, assisting with programs, and other tasks.
